Lumbar Microdiscectomy

Maintain current dressing until follow-up (showers okay) Unless told otherwise

Wear back brace when walking
-
No bending, twisting or lifting greater than 10 pound

Wear TED hose for one week
-
No NSAIDS (anti-inflammatory meds) for 2 weeks (examples include: motrin, advil, aleve, aspirin)

Return to clinic 10 to 14 days after surgery-call clinic around 9am on regular business days if any questions / concerns / problems / fever greater than 103 degrees

Get out of bed and walk around the house several times per day

Regular use of an over-the-counter stool softner is strongly recommended to avoid constipation

Dry dressing change daily-nurse will teach

No NSAIDS (anti-inflammatory meds) for 2 weeks (examples include: motrin, advil, aleve, aspirin)

Wear TED hose for one week

Okay to begin taking showers after drain hole closes-dry area very well afterward and place dry dressing over incisions

Return to clinic 10 to 14 days after surgery-call clinic around 9am on regular business days if any questions / concerns / problems / fever greater than 103 degrees
